Purchasing a used Acura vehicle is a great way to obtain a reliable car at an affordable cost. However, there are additional considerations to make when buying a pre-owned automobile as opposed to buying or leasing a new one. Here are some tips to ensure you end up with a dependable set of wheels.
Take a Test Drive
Test drive the car just as you would a new vehicle. During the drive, keep your senses open. Is there any shaking, vibrations, or unusual sounds? Do you smell burning oil? Does the steering feel smooth? Drive in both the city streets and freeway to get a feel for how the car handles under different speeds and roads.
Bring Your Family
If you have a spouse and children, bring them along and have them ride with you during the test drive. If they’re going to be regular passengers, then their input matters as well. Is this a vehicle they can feel comfortable regularly riding in?
Check the Mileage
Modern cars last an average of 200,000 miles, or as high as 300,000 miles with regular maintenance. Cars are considered high mileage if it has over 15,000 miles for each year it was in operation.
A 2016 model in 2022, for example, is considered high mileage if it has 90,000 miles or more. It is okay, however, to consider a high-mileage vehicle if it has a full-service history report.
Check for Surface Damage
Though surface damage may not affect performance, it does impact vehicle value. Furthermore, while a paint scratch may seem negligible, it can expose the metal underneath and make it susceptible to rust. If you spot anything amiss, just bring it up to your Acura dealer, and we’ll find a solution that works for you.
